Top 5 Recap
This is shaping up to be a very unusual season for our PI rankings. Last month Great Northern jumped up 14 spots from their preseason ranking to take the top spot and this
month topped that for unusualness. The top 4 teams from April all suffered double-digit drops in their PI in May, leaving Pittsburgh as the last team standing at #1 with the
lowest PI for a #1 team since September 1970 when Cincinnati was #1 with a PI of 88.74 (150 game schedule). The PI rankings have become a game of Chutes and Ladders!
Making a big jump this month was Pittsburgh's division rival, St. Louis, who had a +11.94pts increase to move from #9 to #2 only 1.99pts behind the top spot.
The Northern Great Whites had a -12.07pts drop in their PI but that was still a smaller drop than Burbank (-12.32pts) and Hunnefield (-12.83pts) so they only fell to #3 with
Burbank falling to #4. Sleepytown despite only a +2.76pts increase was able to jump 3 spots to round out the top 5. Hunnefield dropped from #3 to #6 and Oregon after
a -10.26pts drop fell from #4 to #7. As a final note --- something we missed last month was Dallas dropped out of the top 5 for the 1st time since September 1970 ending
a truly amazing streak. Unfortunately, fortunes did not improve in May for Dallas as they dropped even further from #6 to #11.
Fremon has rejoined Burbank for the #1 offense while St. Louis holds onto the #1 pitching spot for the 2nd month in a row.
