Babe Ruth Award – Darrell Evans, ORP

(For the hitter with the most outstanding hitting statistics)

 

 

  1. Willie Stargell, TXF (BA .295, OPS 1.000, HR 48, RBI 133, R 113) – finished 1st in SLG%, 2nd in both RBI & homeruns. Set records for extra base hits and doubles. Was 1st team ALL-BDWL. [4]

 

  1. Tony Perez, CWS (BA .343, OPS 1.010, HR 28, RBI 116, R 105) – finished 1st in batting average, 2nd in OPS & OB%, 4th in RBI & 1st in GWRBI. Had the longest hit streak of the season. Was 1st team ALL-BDWL. [4]

 

  1. Darrell Evans, ORP (BA .274, OPS 1.017, HR 51, RBI 135, R 115) – finished 1st in homeruns and set a new BDWL record in the process. Also finished 1st in OPS & RBI and 2nd in SLG%. Won Hitter of the month twice and was 1st team ALL-BDWL. [9]

 

  1. Reggie Jackson, DLH (BA .314, OPS .987, HR 39, RBI 114, R 103, SB 12) – finished tied for 3rd in homeruns, 4th in OPS, 4th in SLG% and 6th in RBI. Was 1st team ALL-BDWL. [2]

 

  1. Ken Singleton, FMI (BA .320, OPS .952, HR 26, RBI 72, R 140) – finished 1st in OB% & runs scored. Was 1st team ALL-BDWL.

 

  1. Cesar Cedeno, FMI (BA .328, OPS .955, HR 34, RBI 126, R 99, SB 14) – finished 3rd in RBI, 5th in batting, 5th in SLG% and 6th in OPS. Won Hitter of the Month and was 1st team ALL-BDWL.

 

  1. Sal Bando, TXF (BA .319, OPS .963, HR 39, RBI 115, R 123) – finished tied for 3rd in homeruns, RBI and OPS. Won Hitter of the Month and was 2nd team ALL-BDWL.

 

 

Walter Johnson Award – Bert Blyleven, TXF

  1. Bert Blyleven, TXF (26-5, GS 40, ERA 2.73, WHIP 1.04, K 245, CG 18, SH 6) – finished 1st in wins, winning % & complete games. Also, was tied for 1st in shutouts and 2nd in strikeouts. 1st team ALL-BDWL. [18]

 

  1. Jim Palmer, ALC (18-11, GS 37, ERA 2.14, WHIP 1.01, K 150, CG 15, SH 3) – finished 1st in opponents BA & OPS and 2nd in ERA & WHIP.  2nd team ALL-BDWL.

 

  1. Gaylord Perry, BKB (22-14, GS 41, ERA 2.80, WHIP 1.17, K 215, CG 17, SH 2) – finished 2nd in wins & complete games and only had 3.9 RPG run support. Won a Pitcher of the month award.

 

  1. Nolan Ryan, WLB (18-13, GS 39, ERA 2.63, WHIP 1.19, K 365, CG 12, SH 6) – finished 1st in strikeouts and in the process obliterated the previous record.  Tied for 1st in shutouts and had only a 3.4 RPG run support. Won a Pitcher of the month award.

 

  1. Luis Tiant, CNC (21-8, GS 33, ERA 3.16, WHIP 1.03, K 176, CG 9, SH 3) – finished tied for 2nd in opponents BA, tied for 3rd in wins and 4th in WHIP.

 

  1. Jon Matlack, CWS (20-11, GS 34, ERA 2.19, WHIP 1.13, K 207, CG 12, SH 4) – finished 4th in ERA and tied for 5th in wins. Won a Pitcher of the month award. [1]

 

  1. Andy Messersmith, FMI (21-9, GS 33, ERA 3.29, WHIP 1.16, K 151, CG 8, SH 2) – finished tied for 3rd in wins.
