Babe Ruth Award – Dick Allen, DLH

(For the hitter with the most outstanding hitting statistics)

 

  1. John Mayberry, PBC (BA .333, OPS 1.072, HR 40, RBI 125, R 124) – spectacular rookie season as he finished 5th in hitting, 1st in OPS%, 1st in slugging %, 3rd n RBI & tied for 2nd in homeruns. 1st team ALL-BDWL and back to back Hitter of the month. [1]

 

  1. Joe Morgan, DLH (BA .342, OPS .973, HR 18, RBI 81, R 161, SB 67) – smashed the runs scored record and set a new stolen base record as well as a new OB% record. Besides finishing 1st in OB%, runs scored and stolen bases – was 3rd in hitting. 1st team ALL-BDWL and won a Hitter of the month award. [5]

 

  1. Dick Allen, DLH (BA .334, OPS 1.064, HR 38, RBI 146, R 153) – finished 1st in RBI (missing record by only 2), 2nd in runs scored, 4th in homeruns, 1st in extra base hits, 6th in hitting and 2nd in OPS%. 1st team ALL-BDWL and won a Hitter of the month award. [11]

 

  1. Joe Rudi, PBC (BA .367, OPS .988, HR 29, RBI 141, R 112) – set a new record for hits while leading the league in hitting. Also, was 2nd in RBI, 3rd in both slugging % and OPS% and was 10th in homeruns. Was 1st team ALL-BDWL. [1]

 

  1. Johnny Bench, NGW (BA.269, OPS.912, HR 45, RBI 120, R 127) – lead league in homeruns, finished 4th in RBI, 5th in runs scored.  Was 1st team ALL-BDWL. [1]

 

  1. Bobby Murcer, TXF (BA .305, OPS .926, HR 40, RBI 114, R 138) – finished tied for 2nd in homeruns, 3rd in runs scored and 3rd in extra base hits. Was 1st team ALL-BDWL. [1]

 

 

Walter Johnson Award – Steve Carlton, BKB

(For the pitcher with the most outstanding pitching statistics)

 

  1. Steve Carlton, BKB (35-3, GS 41, ERA 1.46, WHIP 0.92, K 300, CG 24, SH 12) – set new record for wins reaching 35 and smashing old record, ERA & shutouts while tying a new record by reaching 300 K’s. 1st team ALL-BDWL and back to back Pitcher of the month. [19]

 

  1. Bob Gibson, APR (20-9, GS 34, ERA 2.16, WHIP 0.93, K 197, CG 21, SH 7) – won 20 games for sub .500 club with only a 3.7 rpg run support. Finished 1st in opponents OB% and batting (set a new record) and 2nd in WHIP and 3rd in complete games. 2nd team ALL-BDWL. [1]

 

  1. Phil Niekro, NGW (26-6, GS 36, ERA 1.92, WHIP 0.98, K 183, CG 25, SH 8) – set new record for complete games, was tied for 2nd in wins, 3rd in ERA, 3rd in WHIP and 2nd in shutouts. Won a Pitcher of the month award.

 

  1. Bert Blyleven, TXF (24-6, GS 38, ERA 2.69, WHIP 1.08, K 232, CG 8, SH 2) – finished 5th in wins, 3rd in K’s while pitching in the “launching pad”. Won a Pitcher of the month award.

 

  1. Gaylord Perry, BKB (25-3, GS 40, ERA 1.74, WHIP 0.98, K 219, CG 9, SH 7) – finished 2nd in ERA, 4th in wins, 3rd in winning % and 3rd in K’s. Won a Pitcher of the month award.

 

  1. Wilbur Wood, DLH (26-13, GS 50, ERA 2.85, WHIP 1.09, K 187, CG 18, SH 5) – finished 3rd in wins and started an amazing 50 games. Pitched in hitting dominant WJL.

 

 

Most Valuable Player Award – Steve Carlton, BKB

(For the player most responsible for a team’s success)

 

  1. Joe Morgan, DLH (BA .342, OPS .973, HR 18, RBI 81, R 161, SB 67) – smashed the runs scored record and set a new stolen base record as well as a new OB% record. Besides finishing 1st in OB%, runs scored and stolen bases – was 3rd in hitting. 1st team ALL-BDWL and won a Hitter of the month award. [3]

  1. Ted Simmons, FMI (BA .311, OPS .810, HR 19, RBI 93, R 91) – best hitter on his team while playing one of the toughest positions – catcher.

 

  1. Lee May, ALC (BA .272, OPS .816, HR 34, RBI 117, R 76, GW 16) – finished 6th in RBI and 6th in homeruns. Drove in 117 runs on club that only scored 4.4 runs per game.

 

  1. Bobby Bonds, GLV (BA .278, OPS .827, HR 24, RBI 113, R 109, SB 36, GW 17) – best hitter on his club, while also showing great clutch abilities.

(General Manager of the Year - for the owners that excelled at his job of constructing his team whether through trades, draft or both)

 

  1. Charles Polansky, Dallas Hilltoppers – assembled one of the best offensive teams in BDWL history on his way to winning 100 games and the BDWL Championship. [12]

 

  1. Alan Lehmann, Texas Fire Ants – won 107 games and the Babe Ruth League Championship with a well-balanced team that hit, ran and pitched with the best of them.

 

  1. Andrew Bywaters, Fremont Indians – won the Anderson Division thanks in part to pulling off the only in season blockbuster trade.

 

  1. Greg W, Burbank Barnstormers – won a record 120 games and the Martin Division crown. [7]

 

  1. David Pyke, Northern Great Whites – won 109 games beating out division rival Texas for the Weaver Division Crown.

 

 

 

Manager of the Year – Greg W, BKB

(For the field manager; that excelled at his ability to control matters of team strategy on the field through his ability to set the line-ups and starting pitcher before each game as well as making substitutions & strategy throughout the game.)

 

  1. Charles Polansky, Dallas Hilltoppers – assembled one of the best offensive teams in BDWL history on his way to winning 100 games and the BDWL Championship. [6]
