Rank# offense pitching Rank# + / - Division W - L Win% Index
1 1 1 10 9 Fuller Furries Weaver 98 - 56 0.638 98.31 - this team can pitch and hit & with Andrews managing ability is fav to win championship.
2 4 2 20 18 Columbia Senators Weaver 88 - 66 0.568 87.63 - back up to the top but might be bad timing as FLF will be tough to beat this year.
3 6 4 7 4 Chicago Outlaws Alston 85 - 69 0.554 85.35 - moved to WJL this yr and rises right to the top but at least 5 other tms nipping at their heels.
4 2 14 4 0 New York City Commuters Martin 85 - 69 0.550 84.81 - not a lot of Hrs but tm gets on base & scores. How far they go will depend on their Pch.
5 3 12 5 0 Oregon Pioneers Alston 84 - 70 0.547 84.30 - still built around Off and the longball. SP is pretty good but bully is raising questions.
6 7 2 1 (5) Sleepytown Dukes Anderson 84 - 70 0.543 83.73 - SP not as dominant as past but bully looks top notch. Enough Off to keep them in the hunt.
7 9 4 17 10 Thunderbay Black Jacks Anderson 82 - 72 0.534 82.34 - takes big step up this yr with solid Pch and if Off clicks they could beat out SLD.
8 5 10 11 3 Palm Beach Elks Anderson 82 - 72 0.532 82.09 - virtually same PI as 83 but underpeformed. Has Off & if SP holds they will be in the mix.
9 10 6 6 (3) Bay City Barracudas Anderson 81 - 73 0.527 81.27 - 4th tm that has ligit shot at Div, there question is Off. If they hit, they will be tough to beat.
10 8 10 14 4 San Diego Aztecs Martin 79 - 75 0.513 79.08 - not a lot of power on Off but effective. Like last season there is question at closer.
11 12 8 12 1 North Hollywood Hornets Martin 78 - 76 0.509 78.44 - Pch seems adequate but Off was inconsistant. Will take MVP season from Darryl to win WC.
12 16 7 3 (9) Barnett Shale Drillers Alston 77 - 77 0.497 76.63 - Fingers/Gossage anchor strong bully & SP is solid. Just doesn’t score enough, needs bat.
13 13 9 9 (4) Savannah Shoeless Joes Alston 76 - 78 0.495 76.29 - won 76 gms in 82 & in 83 and predicted to win 76 in 84, they are consistant.
14 14 15 16 2 Toronto Crown Royals Martin 74 - 80 0.479 73.84 - inconsistancy hurt ratings. Both Off & Pch have upside & if both click they will surpirse.
15 15 13 2 (13) LaGrange Lone Gunmen Weaver 74 - 80 0.479 73.81 - Looks bad on paper but BRL after FLF & CLS is wide open. Still has shot at WC.
16 16 17 15 (1) Kingston Thunder Weaver 69 - 85 0.448 69.06 - SP is concern again this yr but added to that is weak Off. Up hill battle this season.
17 11 19 8 (9) Wellington Knights Martin 64 - 90 0.419 64.56 - move to BRL will help but lack of Pch will be too much to over come this year.
18 20 16 13 (5) Vegas Velvet Knights Weaver 64 - 90 0.413 63.60 - hitting has historically been a problem but now Pch is an issue.
19 19 18 18 (1) Decatur Diamond Dawgs Alston 62 - 92 0.402 62.02 - should be another tough season as down yr for Dawson kills Off.
20 18 20 19 (1) London Rippers Anderson 55 - 99 0.354 54.65 - good news is that 84 should be better than 83 but bad news is they only had 46 wins in 83.
Top 5 Recap
The #1 spot has been dominated by Sleepytown for the 1st 2 seasons of the BDSL, but that looks to change in 1984. Fuller starts in the top spot
with a very wide margin (+10.63) over #2 Columbia. This represents the widest margin ever for a preseason #1 ranked team. Fuller's division rival
Columbia should recover from a dismal 1983 as they sit at #2 their highest ranking ever. Their previous best was #3 where they finished 1982.
At #3 is Chicago who have moved from Charleston who moved from Brunswick which makes 3 cities in 3 years. New York City starts 1984 right
where they finished 1983 at #4 while Oregon does the same at #5. On the outside looking in is Sleepytown who would not surprise us if they
made several appearances to the top 5 this season as they are at #6 only .57pts behind #5.
