Babe Ruth Award – Dale Murphy, WLK

(For the hitter with the most outstanding hitting statistics)

 

  1. Dale Murphy, WLK (BA .328, OPS .957, HR 36, RBI 116, R 102) – near triple crown season as he finishes 2nd in hitting, 1st in RBI & tied for 1st in homeruns. Also 1st in slugging %, OB% and OPS. Awards included 1st team ALL-BDWL and 1st team All-Star. Player of the month in June. [16]

 

  1. Mike Schmidt, ORP (BA .279, OPS .924, HR 36, RBI 105, R 106) – tied for 1st in homeruns, 2nd in OPS, 2nd in OB%, 3rd in runs scored % and 5th in RBI. Awards included 1st team ALL-BDWL and 1st team All-Star.

 

  1. Robin Yount, BWB (BA .322, OPS .902, HR 27, RBI 112, R 104, B 21) – finished 2nd in RBI, 2nd in runs scored, 5th in hitting and 3rd in OPS%.  Awards include 1st team ALL-BDWL and 1st team All-Star. Player of the month in April.  [1]

 

  1. Pedro Guerrero, PBE (BA .304, OPS .900, HR 34, RBI 95, R 107) – finished 2nd in extra base hits and slugging %, 4th in OPS and was 5th in homeruns. Awards include 2nd team ALL-BDWL and 1st team All-Star.

 

  1. Gary Carter, NHH (BA.292, OPS.861, HR 29, RBI 111, R 89) – finished 3rd in RBI, 8th in homeruns and 7th in ob%.  Was 1st team ALL-BDWL and 1st team All-Star. [2]

  1. Joaquin Andujar, SLD (29-4, GS 37, ERA 1.78, WHIP 0.99, K 151, CG 21, SH 10) – finished 1st in wins, ERA, Complete games and shut outs. Awards include 1st team ALL-BDWL and 1st team All-Star and won 3 Pitcher of the month awards. [16]

 

  1. Mario Soto, NHH (20-8, GS 34, ERA 2.72, WHIP 1.10, K 309, CG 18, SH 6) – finished 1st in K’s (averaging over 10K per 9ip), tied for 2nd in wins, 2nd in CG, 2nd in shut outs, 5th in OPS (.583), 8th in ERA. Awards include 1st Team All-Star for BRL. [2]

 

  1. Floyd Bannister, SLD (18-4, GS 35, ERA 2.25, WHIP 0.99, K 227, CG 8, SH 5) – finished tied for 1st in WHIP, 2nd in OPS (.549), 3rd in K’s, 4th in winning pct (.818). Awards include 2nd team ALL-BDWL and WJL All-Star selection.

 

  1. John Candeleria, SSJ (13-3, GS 23, ERA 2.08, WHIP 1.00, K 143, CG 5, SH 5) – finished 2nd in ERA, 3rd in WHIP, 3rd in OPS (.571), 4th in QS % (.826). Awards include WJL All-Star selection.

 

  1. Joe Niekro, NHH (18-9, GS 35, ERA 2.24, WHIP 1.03, K 120, CG 14, SH 5) – finished 3rd in ERA, 3rd in CG, 4th in WHIP, 4th in OPS (.581). Awards include BRL All Star selection.

 

  1. Dan Quisenberry, MTM (4-3, SV 34, G 70, ERA 2.29, WHIP 1.02, K 35) – finished 1st in saves and save pct (.944). Awards include 2nd team ALL-BDWL and BRL All Star selection. [1]

General Manager of the Year – Tom Kackley, SLD

(General Manager of the Year - for the owners that excelled at his job of constructing his team whether through trades, draft or both)

 

  1. Tom Kackley, Sleepytown Dukes – won an Organization best 110 games, allowing only 470 runs. Started the season with an 18-6 April, finished with a 19-7 September. Exceptional draft; Ripken and Andujar with first 2 picks. [12]

 

  1. Tim Callan, Wellington Knights – lost the Alston Division in a wild 1 game playoff, then ran the table, capturing the BDSL Championship. Mid Season trade acquisition - slugger Greg Luzinski – drove in the winning run in the 13th inning of the Game 7 Championship.  [3]

 

  1. Ry Adams, Columbia Senators – went 47-31 in the 2nd half, and their strong Pitching led the BRL Wild Card Senators to the BDSL Championship. Acquired Tom Hume in midseason to bolster solid bullpen. [1]

 

  1. Chris Cannan, Oregon Pioneers – had a 39-38 record on July 1st (9 ½ games back and in 4th place), then won the Alston Division with a blistering 48-30 record in the 2nd half. Lost the Division playoff to the Knights in 7 games. Traded for slick fielding Lou Whitaker at start of the year.

 

  1. Tom Coy, Vegas Velvet Knights – won the Weaver Division with 90 wins. Acquired Gary Roenicke at start of season. [1]

 

  1. Greg W., North Hollywood Hornets – took home the Martin Division title and led the BRL with 92 wins. [2]

 

  1. Alan Lehman, LaGrange Lone Gunmen – went 49-31 in the 2nd half, finishing 2nd in the Weaver Division, just 4 games back of the leader.

 

  1. Joe Anglin, Decatur Diamond Dogs – went 42-35 in the 2nd half, finishing 3rd in the Alston Division, 6 ½ back of the leader.

 

 

 

 

Manager of the Year – Tim Callan, WLK

(For the field manager; that excelled at his ability to control matters of team strategy on the field through his ability to set the line-ups and starting pitcher before each game as well as making substitutions & strategy throughout the game.)

 

A.  Tim Callan, Wellington Knights – lost the Alston Division in a wild 1 game playoff, then ran the table, capturing the BDSL Championship. Mid Season trade acquisition - slugger Greg Luzinski – drove in the winning run in the 13th inning of the Game 7 Championship.  [8]
